I named my blog after Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus -- A Roman consul who served only long enough to save his Republic before returning to his farm. Cincinnatus was the inspiration for the Order of Cincinnatus, to which George Washington and Lafayette and many other American Patriots were members. Omnia relinquit servare rempublicam - He relinquished everything to serve the Republic.

I'd Like to Order a Raid Please. Hold the Fries.
Let me see if I can understand this. We have a terrorist camp under operation by a radical Muslim cleric in which there is video that shows militants being trained to slit throats - coincidentally the exact same procedure of throat slitting that allowed these same radical Muslims to hijack planes and fly them into buildings killing almost 3,000 innocent men, women, and children in one morning). However, nothing happens to this little terrorist training camp in upstate New York.
However, every federal agency under the sun has more time to do things like the following.
In 1984, Randy Weaver and neighbor Terry Kinnison had a dispute over a $3,000 land deal. (Kinnison subsequently lost the lawsuit and was ordered to pay Weaver an additional $2,100 in court costs and damages.) Kinnison wrote letters to the FBI, Secret Service and county sheriff alleging Weaver had threatened to kill the Pope, the President and the governor of Idaho. This dispute resulted, eventually, with the involvement of the ATF, FBI, Secret Service, and the U.S. Marshals Service and an armed raid and 4 day siege of the Weaver family.
In May of 1992, the ATF issued a search warrant claiming that there were over 150 weapons and 8,100 rounds of ammunition in the compound of the Branch Dividians Seventh Day Adventists in Waco, Texas. A subsequent 51-day siege by the FBI ended with a raging fire that destroyed the compound. 76 people - 24 of them British nationals, including more than 20 children, and two pregnant women - were killed.
In 2008, the home of Cheye Calvo, mayor of DC suburb Berwyn Heights, was raided by the Sheriff's Office SWAT team after 30lbs of marijuana was delivered to his home. They broke down his door, shot his two black Labradors, and interrogated him and his wife as their dogs bled to death. Calvo had no idea about the package, which was still outside, unopened and perhaps waiting for its real recipient to pick it up. Berwyn Heights Police Chief later said county police and the Sheriff's Office had not notified his department of the raid and further explained that the town police could have conducted the search without a SWAT team. "You can't tell me the chief of police of a municipality wouldn't have been able to knock on the door of the mayor of that municipality, gain his confidence and enter the residence," Murphy said. "It would not have been a necessity to shoot and kill this man's dogs."
I guess the lesson here is own guns, piss off your neighbor or have some thug pick your house as a drug drop off for a box of pot and you'll see your own government bust through the door with guns blazing. Operate a real radical Muslim terrorist training camp that results in real death and terror - no problemo.

Some Thoughts On Monsters or "Happy The Bunny Goes Recycling"

"I consider the de-monsterization of monsters to be a disservice to the truth of things, and the moral and imaginative education of children. You know, editing all the scary bits out of stories and nursery rhymes, and replacing it with “Happy The Bunny Goes Recycling.”
Cookie Monster? Messy eater. Grover? Groveller. Harry? A bit irritable. Sweetums? Pretty scary in the Henson version of The Frog Prince, but since that, just a misunderstood guy with some facial-hair issues. You know, ‘cuz monsters are funny and nice and stuff. Ho-hum. Everything is nice… except when it isn’t. Where are the real monsters, human or otherwise? When adults refuse to deal with scary stuff in age-appropriate ways for fear of ‘traumatizing’ their kids, they send the message that this is so horrible, even adults are scared and powerless to handle it. Better to re-write all the stories, only with nice characters and happy endings. Except– not everybody is nice, nor are all endings– or middlings and beginnings– necessarily happy. The world– while shot through with wonder and glory– is also full of sorrow, darkness, and evil. And even monsters. Some of them have names, and torment people or nations; some have died, but their works and effects live on; some are in our midst, and we want to imagine they are nice, even when that’s not true. The human scale runs from very good to very bad, and so character and choices matter, and we do have a say in who we are and what we become. Castro? Small monster. American/ EUro totalists? Mini-monsters. Mass-murderers? Monsters. The Left-wing twins of Communism/Fascism? Monster-think. Bureaucratic mismanagement of health-care resulting in death, untold suffering and difficulty for the sick and their loved ones? Monstrous. Islamo-fascism? A veritable hotbed of monsterism.
To refuse to recognize monsters is not to improve the world, but to partially blind
ourselves, and misunderstand human nature, and to be at a loss when confronted
with evil. A number of years back, some ordinary and shiftless young idiots in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia heard a rumour that the local McD’s fast-food outlet kept loads of money in the safe (not true). They planned a heist, and took along some nasty weapons. Three restaurant-workers were brutally killed, another young woman was crippled for life, and their own lives ruined, since they were easily caught and soon confessed. Many of the people of the region just couldn’t understand. How could their own local kids go ahead and do something so senseless and deeply evil? Well, because all people are moral agents, and capable of anything, even acts of monstrous evil like the McDonald’s Massacre. As Jesus says, it’s out of the hearts of men that evil comes. So shame on Sesame Street– liberal good intentions."

Common Sense from the Heartland

Not celebrating homosexual unions
Lost its moral compassThe photograph of two women in The Courier-Journal (4/29) of two women who were the first to "marry" in Iowa in a joyful embrace no doubt thrilled the editors. But as I read on, I saw on the very next page another photograph of a woman kissing a parrot. Then, in The CJ's Neighborhoods section there was a photo of a woman kissing a horse. And I immediately thought, or wondered, has some liberal judge taken the next logical step and declared that it is constitutional for someone to marry his or her pet, whether bird or equine? After all, if it is unconstitutional to limit marriage to a man and a woman, how can we exclude any other relationship a person might dream up, whatever it be? Of course, when someone demands the "constitutional right" to marry a horse, a bird, five women, or 10 men, to be consistent, the judges will have to rule that it is their constitutional right, and The CJ editorial staff will have to be true to its liberal convictions and print editorials in favor of the action and every letter in favor of it as well. Our country has lost its moral compass as we slide into a moral sewer. God help us

Quote O' The Day

Again, there is that confidence. Men seemed to know who they were in the past. Today there is so much confusion about the roles of males and females. I, for one, feel that men should be men, and women, women. We should be equal, but different. What good is there in being liberated if we are only liberated to pretend to be something we are not?

A tall, refreshing glass of common sense
Those Born
1926-1979
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets
and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends,
from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because, WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING! We would leave home in the morning and play all day,
as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day.
And we were OK. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them! We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them! Little League had try outs and not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
If YOU are one of them. CONGRATULATIONS! You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good. While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they
will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were. Kind of makes you want to run
through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!
"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?" ~Jay Leno
