Conventional wisdom says that soaring fuel prices as leading people by the droves to abandon the automobile and get on the bus (or light rail, or subway, or street car, etc.)! Yet one couple in the St. Louis metropolitan area has taken a different approach. Says the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Carol and Robert Miles recently realized that they were spending nearly $800 a month on gasoline. For that money, they figured they could buy a second house. So they did.

I named my blog after Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus -- A Roman consul who served only long enough to save his Republic before returning to his farm. Cincinnatus was the inspiration for the Order of Cincinnatus, to which George Washington and Lafayette and many other American Patriots were members. Omnia relinquit servare rempublicam - He relinquished everything to serve the Republic.
