"The best way to drive out the devil, if he will not yield to texts of Scripture, is to jeer and flout him, for he cannot bear scorn." ~Luther
"The devil...the prowde spirite...cannot endure to be mocked." ~Thomas More
I named my blog after Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus -- A Roman consul who served only long enough to save his Republic before returning to his farm. Cincinnatus was the inspiration for the Order of Cincinnatus, to which George Washington and Lafayette and many other American Patriots were members. Omnia relinquit servare rempublicam - He relinquished everything to serve the Republic.

Quote O' The Day
"What does that mean? In 2009, the US spent about $665 billion on its military, the Chinese about $99 billion. If Beijing continues to buy American debt at the rate it has in recent times, then within a few years US interest payments on that debt will be covering the entire cost of the Chinese military. This summer, the Pentagon issued an alarming report to Congress on Beijing’s massive military build-up, including new missiles, upgraded bombers, and an aircraft-carrier R&D program intended to challenge US dominance in the Pacific. What the report didn’t mention is who’s paying for it.
Answer: Mr and Mrs America.
By 2015, the People’s Liberation Army, which is the largest employer on the planet, bigger even than the US Department of Community-Organizer Grant Applications, will be entirely funded by US taxpayers. When the Commies take Taiwan, suburban families in Connecticut and small businesses in Idaho will have paid for it." ~Mark Steyn

Early Hate Crime Quote O' The Day
"So an arrest was made of all who confessed; then on the basis of their information, an immense multitude was convicted...for hatred of the human race."
--Tacitus's Account of Nero's Persecution of Christians, Annales, 15, 44.2-8 (Tacitus lived from c. AD 56-c. 120; he wrote the Annales after AD 100; he was not a Christian, and is regarded as one of Rome's greatest historians)

The Dissident Frogman IS BACK!!! And So Am I.
"Thus, anyone who reduces — and excuses — modern Islamic terrorism as the result of unheard yet legitimate grievances following the reestablishment of the State of Israel, the foreign policy of the USA or even the unpredictably variable length of Western womenfolk's skirts, is primarily showing his ignorance of both English language and History."

"we have gotten word from Moscow, Russia that they will hold a Tea Party rally on September 12. I guess being so close to Sarah Palin's house had a positive impact!" ~Mica Sims

Is Vintage Boehner Back? Has He Had Enough? Let's Hope So...

What I especially like about what Boehner was up to in his attack on Geithner and Summers is that he is putting pressure on the administration at a sore point. President Obama could defend his advisors by saying that none of this was due to them and that he had disregarded their advice regarding the consequences of his policies. But that would not do him or his party any good. It would be admission of irresponsibility on their part. Alternatively, he could fire Geithner and Summers, but that would also do the President and his party harm, for it would be an admission that his economic policy is a failture. Finally, he – or his hapless Vice-President – could try to blunt Boehner’s criticism by once again attacking George W. Bush and by once again claiming that recovery is just around the corner, and this is the option now being pursued. But it, too, is a loser. “Who are you going to believe?” the Republicans can ask. “Joe Biden and Barack Obama or your own lying eyes?”
Moreover, every bit of controversy of this sort that erupts between now and the first Tuesday in November serves to nationalize the election by reminding voters of the consequences of what the Democrats in the House and Senate have done since 2008. As Michael Bennett, a Democrat who was appointed last year to represent Colorado in the Senate, confessed last Saturday, “We have managed to acquire $13 trillion of debt on our balance sheet and, in my view we have nothing to show for it.”
I do hope that John Boehner keeps turning up the heat. ~Paul Rahe @ Big Government

Quote O' The Day With Video
"Decisions on which car dealerships to close as part of the auto industry bailout -- closures the Obama administration forced on General Motors and Chrysler -- were based in part on race and gender, according to a report by Troubled Asset Relief Program Special Inspector General Neal M. Barofsky.
[D]ealerships were retained because they were recently appointed, were key wholesale parts dealers, or were minority- or woman-owned dealerships. [Emphasis added.]
Thus, to meet numbers forced on them by the Obama administration, General Motors and Chrysler were forced to shutter other, potentially more viable, dealerships. The livelihood of potentially tens of thousands of families was thus eliminated simply because their dealerships were not minority- or woman-owned." ~American Thinker

Quote O' The Day
"Barack Hussein Obama is a dulcet-toned sponge swollen with leftist rhetoric, knee-jerk anti-capitalist blather, and university-cultivated hyperbole. He is a man who hasn’t a clue about much of anything beyond the campus brain-clutter that keeps his political base (somewhat) satisfied and his teleprompter in business.
He is a polished appetizer-platter of meaningless Vietnam-era clichés. He is a messiah in a world contrived in his mind that neither asked for nor needs him.
His responses to critical questions reveal a man who is in over his head - a man spinning his wheels in campaign-mode mud - without the ability to be particularly thoughtful or substantive.
He is a man who has contempt for liberty and rugged individualism.
He almost always sounds foolish.
And America continues to pay the price.
No, dear friends, he isn't brilliant.
Rather, he's ignorant and way out of his league.
And I assure you, I don't mean this as an insult. I don't write it for the shock value. It's meant as an honest description."

Anti-Ice Cream Quote O' The Day
Answer: Consider ice cream: Even a single scoop of vanilla was forbidden to women in pre-war Afghanistan, lest they become decadent and Western. In Brooklyn, moms try to force ice cream trucks out of parks, thus eliminating the temptation to consume fat and sugar. The magnitude of interference is different, but both are looking to the state to protect the people from their worst selves.

Quote O' The Day With Emphasis

"Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence … from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable … the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference — they deserve a place of honor with all that's good." ~ George Washington, First President of the United States

Mark Steyn-Genius Quote O' The Day
"Obviously, the loss of Daniel Pearl was one of those moments that captured the world's imagination because it reminded us of how valuable a free press is."
Now Obama's off the prompter, when his silver-tongued rhetoric invariably turns to sludge. But he's talking about a dead man here, a guy murdered in public for all the world to see. Furthermore, the deceased's family is standing all around him. And, even for a busy president, it's the work of moments to come up with a sentence that would be respectful, moving and true. Indeed, for Obama, it's the work of seconds, because he has a taxpayer-funded staff sitting around all day with nothing to do but provide him with that sentence.
Instead, he delivered the one above, which in its clumsiness and insipidness is most revealing. First of all, note the passivity: "The loss of Daniel Pearl." He wasn't "lost." He was kidnapped and beheaded. He was murdered on a snuff video. He was specifically targeted, seized as a trophy, a high-value scalp. And the circumstances of his "loss" merit some vigor in the prose. Yet Obama can muster none.
Even if Americans don't get the message, the rest of the world does. This week's pictures of the leaders of Brazil and Turkey clasping hands withMahmoud Ahmadinejad are also monuments to American passivity."

They Came First for the Goonies and I Didn't Speak Up
"GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE... OR “IRANIAN”
Mark, just finished your column regarding the West's spineless approach to confronting radical (and non-radical) Islam. Shortly after finishing your column, I watched The Goonies with my kids on ABC Family.
If you remember, one of the Goonies, Chunk, is a kid who has cried wolf a few too many times. As he’s talking to the cops on the phone about the mayhem that is ensuing, the cop says, "Yeah, like that time you told me about the fifty ******* terrorists who took over all the Sizzler steakhouses in the city?" The ******* was mysteriously silent; bleeped without the bleep, so to say. So I Googled the line.
Well, the real line is "Yeah, like that time you told me about the fifty Iranian terrorists who took over all the Sizzler steakhouses in the city?" So this line was a perfectly acceptable line in a kids movie in 1985— shortly after the hostage crisis— but now, for some reason, we're too afraid to utter "Iranian terrorists" on a network nobody is watching?
As my texting friends would say, “WTF?”
Scott"
THEY CAME FIRST for the Goonies and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a fan THEN THEY CAME for South Park , and I didn't speak up because I don’t watch Comedy Central. THEN THEY CAME for me and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Mark Steyn-Genius Quote O' The Day
Last week, the American Association of Pediatricians noted that certain, ahem, "immigrant communities" were shipping their daughters overseas to undergo "female genital mutilation." So, in a spirit of multicultural compromise, they decided to amend their previous opposition to the practice: They're not (for the moment) advocating full-scale clitoridectomies, but they are suggesting federal and state laws be changed to permit them to give a "ritual nick" to young girls.
A few years back, I thought even fainthearted Western liberals might draw the line at "FGM." After all, it's a key pillar of institutional misogyny in Islam: Its entire purpose is to deny women sexual pleasure.
True, many of us hapless Western men find we deny women sexual pleasure without even trying, but we don't demand genital mutilation to guarantee it. On such slender distinctions does civilization rest.
Der Spiegel, an impeccably liberal magazine, summed up the remorseless Islamization of Europe in a recent headline: "How Much Allah Can The Old Continent Bear?" Well, what's wrong with a little Allah-lite? The AAP thinks you can hop on the Sharia express and only ride a couple of stops. In such ostensibly minor concessions, the "ritual nick" we're performing is on ourselves. Further cuts will follow.

Scary Quote O' The Day
"The Imam who will create a world state will make the ruling nations pay for their crimes against society...He will protect and defend himself with resources of science and supreme knowledge. His control over these resources will be complete. - Islam (Shiite)- Nahjul Balagha, Khutba 141, 187

Quote O' The Day

"These Americans are peculiar people. If, in a local community, a citizen becomes aware of a human need which is not being met, he thereupon discusses the situation with his neighbors. Suddenly, a committee comes into existence. The committee thereupon begins to operate on behalf of the need and a new community function is established. It is like watching a miracle, because these citizens perform this act without a single reference to any bureaucracy, or any official agency. - Alexis De Toqueville

Quote O' The Day

"Speaking to a friend of mine at the CATO institute this morning and he said something very profound. Jesus recognized unalienable rights when he said "render unto Caeser what is Caeser's." That, of course, implied that some things were NOT Caeser's - therefore were granted to us by a much higher power. In other words, inalienable." ~Leland Conway
