Yes, I made it home from the place where they drink their fish and I did, indeed, arrive rested and a bit tanned, or in my case freckled and pink. What is it about floating in America's biggest fresh water lake that is so restorative? Maybe it's the feel of soft sand under your toes, the refreshing spray of the crashing waves, the mid-seventies temperature or just the cold water that contains no salt, no seaweed, no murkiness, no sharks, no sharp rocks or coral...just perfectness. But best of all, no thought regarding Obama and the socialist take over of America.

But, I'm back ready to fight the good fight with word and blog. So my first assignment for all you lovely readers is to go buy this book and read it. The title says all you need to know. "Nullification: How to Resist Federal Tyranny in the 21st Century". A must read. Go buy it.

MUST READ FICTION. Vlad: The Last Confession

I've always been a fan of historical fiction as there's no better way to get your head into history. It is most often written in the gap between true events and myth, propaganda and truth. Nowhere is this more evident than in C.C. Humphrey's Vlad: The Last Confession. If you are afraid I'm going to tell you how I'm a big fan of the recent vampire craze, you'd be seriously wrong. This tells the true story of Vlad the Impaler, Prince of Transylvania. What is frightening about the book is, like most history, it runs right into the present. And C.C. Humphrey's is one of the best writers of historical fiction along with writer's like Bernard Cornwell. So, I give you a taste...

'No,' said Vlad, serious again. 'We fight because, however much we may hate each other, we have to hate them more. They are the enemy. Of our faith in Christ, however we see it, Orthodox or Catholic. And for our lands. Free, not under the yoke of Islam and the Turk.'

Something to keep in mind while reading the book. By November of 1204, Christian knights were facing a long, protracted war in the middle-east for control of the holy land. A mission that was suppose to take them to Egypt to attack the Muslim stronghold there, instead had them laying siege to Constantinople to win over the seat of power for a greedy nobleman. The mission was a disaster and it weakened the largest city of eastern orthodox Christians, it broke christian Rome from the Eastern Orthodox Church and it heralded the death knell for christian knights in general. By 1291, the Muslims eject the last of the crusaders from the holy land and in 1307, the entire order of knights Templar are arrested, killed, tortured and imprisoned. By 1453 the Muslims are able to conquer Constantinople.

I'm loving this book. If you even have an ounce of conservative in you, go get this book.

I had the opportunity to hear Brigitte Gabriel speak recently. I love her almost as much as Sarah Palin. If you value freedom you will buy this book, read it and then read it again and then buy copies for your freedom loving friends. Here's a sampling...

Literary Review~The Last Patriot by Brad Thor

If you read one book this summer, make it this one. Brad Thor manages to combine a fast paced thriller, history lesson, and political commentary all into one great read. And his characters aren't bad either. I'm a writing style snob, so his style could use some work, but I rate it a 6 or 7 out of 10. Not bad.

Has he managed to create a new genre? Conservative, pro-liberty fiction? I don't know but I'm surprised he managed to get it published. It's not like there are tons of publishing houses clamoring to go to print with stories that are even the slightest bit critical of Islam.

Brad does a great job of combining fiction with just a sprinkling of fact to spice things up and make the reader wonder. And you will, I promise. Best part of the book is recognizing and separating real history from his fictionalized aspects of it. This book will definitely have you racing to Wikipedia to do your own research.
